Mary Prasciunas recently received her PhD in Anthropology from the University of Wyoming, and currently works as an archaeologist for Westland Resources in Tucson, AZ. Mary received her bachelor’s degree at the University of Arizona, and came to the University of Wyoming in 2001 to study Plains and Rocky Mountain Paleoindian archaeology, and pursue her master’s and doctoral degrees. During this time, and in conjunction with the George C. Frison Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology and the University of Wyoming, she has been involved with numerous archaeological field and research projects focused on Paleoindian sites throughout Wyoming and Colorado. Although broadly interested in Paleoindian archaeology, Mary’s research has focused on Clovis, the earliest widespread and well-documented cultural tradition in North America. Her dissertation evaluated the traditional interpretation of Clovis as a colonizing population by analyzing: Clovis technological organization; the spatial distribution of Clovis projectile points across North America; and the potential for Clovis-age radiocarbon dates to inform on the colonization process.
